Life is a Highway

How cool is this? My three cousins (and cousin in law) left today on a USA road trip in an RV.
They will be gone for about 6 weeks and plan to drive around the USA. They have a page on myspace to document their travels. (points to the links list on the right)

What a great time!

When I'm 36

Happy Birthday to me!

While sitting at Jimmy John's sub shop, I read an interesting snippit on the wall. It comes from Dave Barry, Things I have learned in 50 years. These made me smile... so on the auspicious occasion of my 36th birthday (I have 14 years to learn more) Here they are....

  1. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings."
  2. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness." (see home pictures below)
  3. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them. (I have been "witness" to this one more than once)
  4. And when God, who created the entire universe with all of its glories, decides to deliver a message to humanity, He WILL NOT use, as His messenger, a person on cable TV with a bad hairstyle. (Amen brother!)
  5. You should not confuse your career with your life. (this one is a hard one, I am working on it)
  6. No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously.
  7. When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy.
  8. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
  9. Take out the fortune before you eat the cookie.
  10. The most powerful force in the universe is gossip. (and you must learn to use it for good and not evil)
  11. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.
  12. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.
  13. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven. (that is why I make a big deal about it!)
  14. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers. (this one is especially true)
  15. The main accomplishment of almost all organized protests is to annoy people who are not in them. (a little cynical I know)
  16. A person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter is not a nice person.
  17. Your friends and family love you anyway.

Thank you to my friends and family that made this (and every other birthday) special! I am a very lucky person!

Things you take for granite

We have countertops.

We have furniture

I am done with classes.

I came home from work tonight and had dinner at our new breakfast bar, read a book, drank wine, put away some wedding gifts.

I like August!
