The Assault on Reason

Our founders faith in the viability of representative democracy rested on their trust in the wisdom of a well informed citizenry, their ingenious design for checks and balances, and their belief that the rule of reason is the natural sovereign of a free people.

Democracy is suffering because our well informed citizenry is in danger of becoming a "well amused audience" Americans now watch an average of 4.5 hours of TV a day. When you assume an 8 hour work day, a couple of hours to eat and sleep that is almost 75 percent of all the discretionary time the average american has. TV only provides a one way conversation, in 30 second sound bites.

When was the last time that you took the time to find out for yourself the issues surrounding a news story? Are you well informed or well amused?
